"If people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny."
— Thomas Jefferson (1762-1821), Third President of the USA, author of the Declaration of Independence.

I have been supporting this group and following their work for some time. I think it is important to maintain our independance as regards health choices. The current regulatory process that we are involved in was instigated by the Pharmaceutical Society, (see House of Lords review on Complementary Health 1999). If you want to find out about the power and motivations of the drugs business read 'Big Pharma' by Jacky Law.
I, personally, am not going to be supporting this regulatory process because of the incompatibility of the different paradigms that natural and allopathic health come from and because I am not in favour of the business and political control of health.
As a matter of interest Yoga was excluded entirely from the regulatory process and Yoga Therapy was included as being open to voluntary regulation. So Yoga is currently safe from this process and long may it remain so. In his book 'Yoga Beneath the Surface'(p.205) Srivatsa Ramaswami has this to say. "With the necessity of getting insurance money for yoga therapy, the system had to bend over backward to make it as intelligible to the Western health people and patients as possible." "I feel the Western yoga has come to stay and only a small fraction of the people are really interested in studying yoga in its original version. I feel yoga is slowly becoming part of Western system, and it is now becoming more and more necessary for the yoga teachers to talk the language of the western medical man. In the process many of the lofty and subtle principles of the older yoga system are being lost."

I agree, Steve.The

I agree, Steve.

The regulatory proposals are nothing short of sinister and need to be made known to all. We could wake-up one day soon and find that the only legal 'health' options available are supplied by Big Biz.

As far as the dilution of the teachings of Yoga, this is a very interesting point also.
Perhaps a subject for another forum thread ....
